In short, the rise of Trump has sent the Republican establishment into disorder and challenged traditional views in political science. Given his lack of experience and slanderish rhetoric, how has Trump maintained the attention and vote of the Republican electorate? To answer this question, I will not depend on concepts such as voter-turnout and demographic blocs often used by political scientists. Instead, I will explore the religion of Donald Trump. For this ambitious task, I will employ philosopher William James and his The Varieties of Religious Experience to illuminate the personal side of religious politics, alongside with sociologist Emile Durkheim and his The Elementary Forms of Religious Life to unpack the communal side.
